It features many internal upgrades over the previous 4.0 litre engine including forged internals, a better valve train block, improvements to the cooling system , valve tensioners and guides.

Lastly Jaguar stopped using Nikasil lined cylinders, an achilles heal for the Jaguar 4.0 engines as well as many German engines of that era.
